Promatic World Sporting Championships 2010

This CPSA registered event was hosted by Lakenheath Clay Target Centre on the A1065 opposite the Lakenheath Air Base, Suffolk from 7th-11th July 2010.

The main sponsors of the 5 day shooting festival were Promatic Clay Target Traps, Hull Cartridge Company and Frimstone Aggregates. Special mention should be made of Frimstone aggregates from Crimplesham, Norfolk, a local company who supplied all the ribbons, medals and trophies throughout the event and sponsored the FITASC event in its entirety. The backdrop to the awards was very novel with a tipper lorry featuring prominently in the awards backdrop.

The weather for the week went from a comfortable 24 degrees to a scorching 31 degrees in Lakenheath last week which helped to attract many spectators wanting to witness the incredible skills of the shooters attending from around the world. With shotgun manufacturers trade stands Krieghoff, Perazzi and Zoli made for a fantastic atmosphere and allowed the rank and file clay target shooter to see firsthand what kit the champions use.

Over the course of this World clay shooting festival Lakenheath CTC was host throughout the week to 101 FITASC sporting entrants shooting 150 targets over two days, a Prelim Sporting warm up event of 192 entrants shooting 100 target in one day, the World Sportrap Championship having 233 entrants shooting 100 targets and finally the World Sporting having an impressive 553 entrants shooting 200 targets, 100 targets per day on the Saturday and Sunday.

Shooters travelled from all over the world to take part in this Clay Pigeon Shooting Association blue ribbon event from countries as far afield as Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA, South Africa, Russia, Latvia, France, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark and let's not forget all the UK home nations.

The course was designed by John Dyson who is a F.I.T.A.S.C veteran double world champion from Norfolk. The World sporting course consisted of two layouts of fifteen stands of varying targets set at varying levels of difficulty thrown from a total of 168 Pro-Matic traps.

The individual winner of the 2010 Promatic World Sporting Championships was Ben Husthwaite from Leicestershire; the Silver medal winner was local shooter Paul Simpson from Suffolk (Simpsons of Newmarket) and third was George Digweed from Sussex. With the championship being held in England it was great to see three English shooters 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the podium.

In the World Sporting championship team events, England seniors won team gold, the English ladies won team silver, the veterans won team silver, the English Super Veterans won team gold (team included Paddy Howe from Norfolk) and the English Juniors won team silver. A huge achievement by all.

The winner of the World Sportrap Championship was Mark Marshall from Berkshire.
